Program
A hands-on STEM journey from curiosity to creation
STEMForge Academy introduces learners to practical science, technology, communication, observation, design, and creative expression through guided youth engagement activities.
Young people learn deeply when they observe, build, test, question, explain, and create.
Core Learning Areas
Six connected learning streams
1
Radio Communication
Learners explore how information travels through invisible waves. They are introduced to radio discipline, message clarity, signal behavior, antennas, and the public-service tradition of radio communication.
- Supervised radio demonstrations
- Message passing exercises
- Radio etiquette
- Signal clarity activities
- Introduction to antennas and waves
- Future pathway into STEMForge Radio Society
2
Electronics & Programming
Learners explore basic circuits, components, logic, and systems. They begin to understand how small parts combine to create useful devices.
- LEDs, batteries, switches, resistors
- Simple circuit building
- Troubleshooting
- Input-output thinking
- Basic programming logic
- Project challenges
- Future pathway into STEMForge Mechatronics Club
3
Optics: The Science of Seeing
Learners explore light, lenses, focus, magnification, image inversion, and the way instruments extend human vision. They discover how optics is a gateway to seeing differently and discovering hidden details, helping learners understand how we can build and use tools to see the very small and the very far.
- Lens exploration
- Magnification activities
- Image inversion experiments
- Optical illusions
- Building simple optical devices
- Seeing differently challenges
- A foundational experience that supports all other learning areas
4
Microscopy, Morphology & Biomimicry
Learners use microscopes to observe hidden details in everyday materials and natural specimens. They are introduced to morphology: how shape and structure support function. They discover how nature solves design problems beautifully, inspiring creativity and practical design thinking
- Simple microscope observation
- Sketching structures
- Comparing samples
- Identifying patterns
- Nature-inspired design prompts
- Shape -> function -> design thinking
- A powerful cross-cutting observation skill developed throughout the program
5
Astronomy & Sky Measurement
Learners use sky observation, models, special software, and optics-supported astronomical reasoning to explore how humans study distant objects. Astronomy is presented as measurement, evidence, and asking how humans know what they know about distant objects.
- Stellarium sky exploration
- Moon and planet awareness
- Scale models
- Parallax demonstrations
- Shadows and measurement
- Telescope and lens concepts
- How do astronomers know? discussions
- Future pathway into STEMForge Skywatchers Club
6
STEM Communication & Creative Expression
Learners document and communicate what they discover. They use writing, sketching, storytelling, presentation, and creative explanation to strengthen understanding.
- STEMForge Journal
- Observation writing
- Science storytelling
- Explain-it-simply exercises
- Project presentation
- Demo day preparation
- A powerful cross-cutting communication skill developed throughout the program
The STEMForge Method
Ask, observe, measure, test, build, explain
Ask
Every session begins with curiosity.
Observe
Learners use their senses and tools to notice carefully.
Measure
Where possible, observations are turned into numbers, comparisons, or records.
Test
Learners try things, change variables, and check results.
Build
They create simple systems, models, explanations, and projects.
Explain
They learn to communicate what happened, what worked, what failed, and what they would improve.
Upcoming Program
A 6-week vacation STEM Session
The Vacation STEM Program runs from July 28 to September 5, 2026, and is organized across 6 weeks, with 2 sessions per week.
Week 1
Possibility, Careers & Seeing Differently
Learners discuss future interests, knowledge, tools, and the importance of structured curiosity. The optics wow experience introduces the idea that tools extend human senses.
Week 2
Signals, Circuits & Systems
Learners explore radio communication, basic circuits, message clarity, and how invisible systems can be tested.
Week 3
Microscopy, Nature & Design
Learners observe hidden structures, explore morphology, and discover how nature solves design problems.
Week 4
Astronomy, Scale & Verification
Learners explore sky observation, parallax, shadows, scale models, and the question: How do we know?
Week 5
Project Challenge & Guest Interaction
Learners work on mini-projects, interact with professionals where available, and prepare to explain their ideas.
Week 6
Final Build, Presentation & Demo Day
Learners complete activities, present discoveries, share journals, and participate in a final showcase.
Continuation Pathways
Clubs and societies for keen learners
After the program, interested learners may continue their exploration and skill-building through opt-in clubs and societies designed to support growth beyond the short vacation program experience.
